 Sertraline is one of the most commonly used antidepressants which is advertised under the brand name Zoloft. Sertraline is categorized as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which is the most common type of medication prescribed for depression. Sertraline exhibits its main properties by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is the neurotransmitter that is responsible for happiness and maintaining a good and stable mood. By increasing serotonin levels, depression and anxiety levels are often reduced.

For the purpose of depression, the starting dose for this compound is 50mg per day and the maximum daily dose is 200mg per day.
